Chronicle: According to a coin find in today's district of Anzberg, the earliest settlement of the municipality dates back to 79 AD, i.e. to Roman times. Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the town was Bavarian until 1780. Only with the Peace of Teschen on May 13, 1779, it became Austrian with the rest of the Innviertel and remained so, apart from a short period during the Napoleonic Wars, until Austria's annexation to the Third Reich in March 1938. After the end of World War II, Freinberg returned to Upper Austria.
