A museum tour in the Schopper Museum not only provides interesting facts about the social and economic conditions of the schoppers using original objects, display boards, and contemporary witness interviews, but also provides information about the wooden ships once built in Aschach using models. The shipbuilder derives the name "Schopper" from the activity of "schoppen," which is the sealing of joints during the construction of ships, rafts, or zillen (flat-bottomed boats).Progress and change in fishing are also vividly addressed and conveyed through impressive exhibits. In addition to numerous examples of fish species found in the Danube catchment area, various animals living on the water are also shown. One of the main tasks of the Upper Austrian State Fisheries Association is to preserve and pass on the cultural heritage of fishing, which has been passed down from generation to generation.Guided tours for groups:Bookable: year-round with advance notice.Email: museumsverein@aschach.atTel. +43 699 1169662Max. duration: 1.5 hoursGroup sizes: 8 to 50 peopleBy car:Coming from the direction of Ottensheim, Eferding, or Passau, drive into the center of the market town of Aschach, past the parish church and the town houses, and you will reach Schopperplatz with the museum grounds on the right side.Distance from the parish church approx. 800 m.Ship and bus:From the ship landing stage or bus stop near the parish church, walk upstream along the towpath and you will reach the museum grounds after approx. 800 m.
