Schönangerkapelle

Due to its architectural style, the chapel shrine can be stylistically assigned to the early to mid-19th century. The indication sketch for the Franciscan Cadastre from 1826 shows that at that time there was only forest at this location. The chapel is not yet marked on this map, which, however, does not rule out that it may have already existed at that time. On a map of the k.u.k. Military Geographic Institute from 1873, the chapel already appears.The field name "Schöner Anger" points to a significantly older designation. Although an Anger (meadow) was originally understood to be a grass-covered pasture, the chapel is now located in the middle of the forest. Presumably, the name commemorates an earlier clearing or pasture that once characterized the landscape.In the niche of the chapel shrine are a statue of Saint Jude Thaddeus, a picture of Mary with a lily, and depictions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Thus, the chapel remains a place of prayer and quiet contemplation to this day.According to tradition, the construction of the Schönangerkapelle goes back to an event at the Riener farm in Edt. After cattle had broken out and could not be found despite a long search, the animals were finally discovered at the spot where the chapel stands today. Out of gratitude for the fortunate rediscovery, the chapel is said to have been built there.In 2020, the Schönangerkapelle was extensively renovated. A bench invites visitors to linger. An information board at the chapel also provides the traditional legend about the origin of the Schönangerkapelle.
