Schloss Lichtenau was built between 1503 and 1506 by the Rosenberg brothers, the mine owners of the Pinzgau. Over the years, it changed owners frequently. In 1978, the castle was purchased and renovated by the municipality of Stuhlfelden. Since 1980, it has housed the General Special School for the towns of Hollersbach, Mittersill, Stuhlfelden, Uttendorf, and Niedernsill. The castle is also used for events such as exhibitions, lectures, and bazaars.
