Schloss Hartberg

Hartberg, Styria

burgführung

As a border region, East Styria was exposed to hostile attacks for centuries. In 1128, Hartberg was established as a palace by the Styrian margraves from the Traungau family. Around 1130, the construction of the castle began. In 1166, a noble assembly met here and decided to build a ring of castles against the Hungarians. These defensive castles, which often became noble palaces, tell their very personal stories. At the highest point of the medieval town once stood the Traungau castle, now the site of Schloss Hartberg. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was rebuilt and expanded in Renaissance style, and in the 21st century, it was accentuated with a contemporary extension and surrounded by a romantic park landscape, reflecting the nuanced course of history. This location is also perfect for celebrations of all kinds. Please contact us directly to arrange an appointment.
