Gastronomic offers for groupsAccommodation for groupsThe Schiederweiher was built between 1897 and 1902 by k. & k. master builder Johann Schieder for Friedrich Eckbrecht Graf von Dürkheim-Montmartin. To stop the increasing silting and algae growth, an extensive renovation project was carried out by the municipality of Hinterstoder with the support of public funds and the owner, Carl Herzog von Württemberg, in the winter months of 2004/05. The weir system of the Schiederweiher at the inlet, including the intake structure, was renewed. Along the dam, bank reinforcements were erected and the weir at the outlet was restored according to the original plans. Along the well-known Polsterlucken hiking trail, safety measures were taken and a viewing platform was designed. During the dredging work of the Schiederweiher, considerable amounts of sludge, around 11,000 m3, accumulated, which were transported to surrounding areas in agreement with the water rights, forestry, and nature conservation authorities. During the renovation work, the main focus was on ecological compatibility – thus, the reed belts and shallow bank areas remained largely untouched. The fish stock in the Schiederweiher was significantly reduced by net fishing before the start of the renovation work. Most of the remaining fish were brought to a nearby pond for overwintering, the rest were “released” into the Steyr when the weir was opened. Uninvited guests (otters) reduced the fish in the overwintering pond by two-thirds. A large part of the fish food living in the sediment was lost due to the dredging. The fish stock in the Schiederweiher is now being rebuilt with native, site-appropriate young fish – brown trout from the region (Urforelle) as well as whitefish and Arctic char. Ecological diversity is maintained with small fish (minnows) and crayfish (noble crayfish, stone crayfish).
