Hagelhexe Legend Trail An adventurous circular trail through meadows and forests to the legend of the Hagelhexe. The starting point of this themed trail is in Hauserdorf. However, you can join the trail anywhere along its route. (If you arrive by car, a free parking lot near the station in Bruck is a good starting point.) The trail first runs through meadows and forests towards Bruck. Upon reaching Bruck, you walk leisurely along the paved streets and paths to Niederhof. Here, the trail then goes through the forest, ascending 300 meters towards Gasthof Kohlschnait. Caution: here, you can spot witches in the trees. Once at the highest point, you have a great view of Bruck – a wonderful photo spot for holiday pictures, which we have set up here. Upon arriving at Gasthof Kohlschnait, you can stop for a break before descending about 2.5 km back to the starting point. TIP: If you do not want to go uphill, you can skip the small round to Gasthof Kohlschnait by simply continuing along Niederhofstraße or the Tauernradweg. However, you will miss small highlights of the Hagelhexe, a great view, a photo spot, and a place to stop. The Legend of the Hagelhexe Once upon a time, there was a witch. She met with her witch friends high up in the mountains near Kitzsteinhorn. The witches danced and plotted storms. The Hagelhexe took ice blocks from the glacier and attached the ice chunks to her broom with a rope. She flew over the villages – including Bruck – and shattered the ice chunks in the air. The ice fragments then fell to the ground as hailstones. Perhaps you will spot the Hagelhexe on her broom when it hails in Bruck. Legend retold by Christina Huber and Hannah Sebernegg (as part of the summer holiday program in 2018 with Iris Unterhofer).
