Ruine Hörtenberg

Above the village of Pfaffenhofen, the castle ruin Hörtenberg stands widely visible, surrounded by a meadow. In the Middle Ages, court was held here before jurisdiction later moved to Telfs. In 1706, a lightning strike ignited a powder supply of 1,500 Zentner (approx. 82,500 kg) that was stored in the castle. The castle fell victim to the massive explosion. Today, only a keep remains, which has been fitted with a roof for protection. The ruin can only be viewed from the outside.
