Römische Kalkbrennöfen / Calcaria

The Roman lime kilns Calcaria in Enns are a historically and archaeologically significant site that offers insights into Roman antiquity. The cultural site, known for its well-preserved lime kilns, plays an important role in the research of Roman industry and technology.The largest known Roman lime kiln complex of the Imperium Romanum is located near the northern corner of the legionary camp. The best-preserved kiln is 4.2 meters high and can be visited in a protective structure. A multimedia presentation vividly explains lime production and its importance for outstanding Roman building technology.
