Roman LegacyA search for traces leading into the ancient Roman Empire finds a special highlight in this collection of unique grave monuments in Bad Waltersdorf. The Roman relief stones are witnesses that the area around Bad Waltersdorf was already settled almost 2500 years ago. Some of the Roman stones were walled into the church wall and at the rectory. The stones were carefully removed from the masonry, and thus an "open-air museum" was created in 1966. In order to better protect these valuable Roman stones and to present them even more attractively, a "Roman Museum" was newly built in 1998. Rarities of early tomb and relief art from the 1st and 2nd centuries AD make Romanophile hearts beat faster. Among other things, the carved Noric girl in a fashionable bell paenula with umbrella and lantern can be seen. Finds from a tumulus of a Celtic-Roman burial site such as household appliances, jugs and bowls. The "sella curulis – a seat of honor relief" was created around 150 AD; such a relief of honor was only dedicated to the highest-ranking officials of Roman provincial towns. An ancient female seated statue without a head and many other noteworthy stone relief documents.
