Römerpark Schlögen

Learn more at www.donauregion.at/welterberundeThe Fort The camp, with an inner area of only 0.8 ha, is referred to as a small fort and was probably designed for a garrison of 100 to 150 men. A 1.65 m thick defensive wall with a wooden battlement enclosed the rectangular complex. The evaluation of the finds showed that the fort was built around 170 AD and the area was used well into the 5th century.The Civilian Settlement The small civilian settlement (vicus), which was located in the area of today's campsite, was established around 150 AD. The Roman vicus of Schlögen probably served as a road station as well as a landing and transshipment point for ships. The bathhouse occupied a central position in the settlement and was located directly next to the road.a) Directly on the B 130/Nibelungenstraße (chargeable parking spaces).b) From the parking lot in Schlögenleiten (4083 Haibach ob der Donau), a Roman sculpture shows us the half-hour path from the Schlögener Donaublick down to the Römerpark Schlögen, which not only leads culturally interested hikers on the trail of the legion but also allows a unique journey through time into the Roman era with two excavation sites during a leisurely stroll.
