Roman Museum RatschendorfOur museum was once a cold storage house. Today it is a place for encountering archaeology, history, and building culture.Researching, preserving, and conveying are as much ingrained in the genes of our museum, which opened on May 6, 1990, as are sustainability, inclusion, and participation. In Ratschendorf, a vacant "cold storage house," built by the village community and no longer in use, was saved from demolition and now "lives on," analogous to its original function as a meeting place for the village community, as a place for archaeology, history, and culture to meet with and for the visitors of the museum. A walk-in(!), life-size reconstructed Roman burial mound The center of the museum space is occupied by a walk-in, life-size reconstructed Roman burial mound with its five burials. The exhibited artifacts, including Terra Sigillata and glass vessels, come from the Roman cemetery "Hügelstaudach," located in the immediate vicinity of the museum, and graphics as well as display boards impressively complement the exhibition.The awarding of architectural prizes such as the "GerambRose" (formerly "Geramb-Dankzeichen für Gutes Bauen") as well as other recognitions honors the successful and uncompromising implementation – and thus also timeless and still valid quality – of monument preservation and architectural, archaeological, didactic, artistic, and social concerns and concepts.Tip 1: Also visit the small Roman burial mound field "Hügelstaudach," located only 1 km south of the museum.Tip 2, Recommendation: With timely registration, you can book a guided museum visit. Additionally, if you have time and inclination, extensions such as a hike from the museum to the burial mounds, a visit to the "Wäsch" or the nature-protected "Jahnwald," the small pilgrimage church Maria Helfbrunn, and much more.
