Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia
Here began the impressive rise of the princely house of Khevenhüller. It was Christoph Khevenhüller who, with his wife Elisabeth Mannsdorf, erected this three-story Renaissance building with arcades in 1537. It became the birthplace (1538) of one of Europe's most important diplomats: Hans Khevenhüller – Imperial Envoy at the court of Philip II of Spain, who also had the high honor of being admitted to the Order of the "Golden Fleece". What a historic building that the city chose as its town hall.
