Pollheimerpark

The redesign in 1999 brought contiguous lawns and a reduction of path areas. The interpretation of the central park area as a memorial grove, introduced since the interwar period, was retained. Eight monuments commemorate the significance of military, war, and war victim history for the population of Wels.Due to the large crowns of the old trees, large parts of the park are shaded. However, the park benches, which are not permanently installed, can be rearranged in response to weather conditions. Passers-by and park visitors particularly take advantage of this offer in the summer heat or for a short rest.Although conceived as a place of rest and contemplation, the park cannot truly live up to this claim, even after the redesign, due to its location on the heavily frequented Pollheimerstraße and the associated high exhaust and noise emissions.As further stages of a three-stage renovation, the city is planning paving work and new square solutions on the narrow sides of the park in the area of Ledererturm and Ringstraße/Zugang Freiung. A border planting, planned as the final stage against Pollheimerstraße, is intended to reduce the high exhaust and noise emissions in the park.
