Pleschinger Austernbank

The 8.2-hectare oyster bank is a sand extraction site that has been unused for several decades and became widely known primarily due to its fossil finds, especially shark teeth and oysters - hence the name Oyster Bank. 194 plant species have been identified, 17 of which are on the "Red List" of endangered ferns and vascular plants in Upper Austria. Particularly noteworthy here are the "Grape Broom", the "Upright Hedge-nettle" and the "Alpine Pondweed". For hymenopterans (bees, bumblebees, ants, etc.), the Pleschinger sand pit is an outstanding habitat. Furthermore, 58 bird species, including the Black Woodpecker, were encountered. 307 species of butterflies and moths, 93 beetle species and 40 spider species have been identified. The occurrence of the Aesculapian snake is also particularly noteworthy.
