Platz der Visionäre in Bad Blumau

When the impossible becomes possible, fairy tales come true, and joy of life awakens, then you have arrived in Bad Blumau. From a former farming community to a renowned and recognized spa town and a magnet for guests and art lovers from all over the world. A unique creation was brought into being. It all began in the late 1970s. In what was then Blumau, drilling for oil was underway. Indeed, something was found, but at a depth of 2,843 meters, it was not the longed-for crude oil, but "only" one hundred-degree hot water. The source was sealed with concrete and intended for eternal rest. However, stimulated by the general tourist development, a few years later the municipal secretary, Mr. Karl Semmler, approached Mr. KR Robert Rogner with the data of the sealed source. He examined the location and was fascinated by the gentle hilly landscape of Eastern Styria. Under the condition that the source data would withstand a long-term test, Mr. KR Rogner promised a tourist development. The borehole was re-drilled at the expense of the provincial government. The excellent water quality was confirmed. Two further boreholes were carried out at the expense of Mr. KR Rogner. Mr. KR Rogner acquired 40 ha of land from the farmers at uniform fair prices. A resort was planned according to the model of the nine successful Rogner hotel villages. On January 15, 1992, however, Mr. KR Rogner coincidentally met the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. One hundred-degree hot water and the architecture of Friedensreich Hundertwasser – a pioneering project began. A vision became reality. Rogner Bad Blumau, the largest habitable total work of art. A symbiotic concept allows people, water, nature, and architecture to merge into a harmonious whole. No one would have been better suited than the visionary KR Rogner to understand Hundertwasser's philosophy and to realize it in this unique way. Green and walkable roofs that integrate into the landscape, as well as uneven floors, colorful colors, shapes, and unequal windows. Today, the thermal spa is also affectionately called "Hügelwiesenland" (hill meadow land) – an apt description for the wondrous complex full of oases, which acts as a sustainable and forward-looking economic impulse generator for the entire region. A special place for special people. Just a few steps away and you enter the Bad Blumau spa park, where there is something interesting to discover at every turn.
