Zirl, Tyrol
The Parish Church of the Holy Cross was first mentioned in a document in 1391. The 62-meter-high church tower was built during the reign of Emperor Maximilian I (1493-1519) and received its Baroque onion dome in 1770. The current church was built between 1847 and 1849, and from 1860 to 1887, the Zirl church painter Franz Plattner created the magnificent frescoes in the Nazarene style. The oldest piece in the church is the baptismal font, which dates from the time of Emperor Maximilian. In 2017, the roof and facade of the church were completely restored to their original colors.
