Pfarrkirche Steyrling - "Unbefleckte Empfängnis Mariä"

Klaus, Upper Austria

The parish church of Steyrling was built in 1863 as one of the first historicist churches in the Diocese of Linz. The church interior was significantly altered in the 1970s by the stained-glass windows by Lydia Roppolt, which largely shape the spatial effect. As a connection to history, the three figures Maria, Anna, and Joachim by Johann and Josef Rint, which originated from the original furnishings, were given a new place on the choir wall during the redesign. The altar area design is characterized by the materiality of the smooth, polished stone, the rectilinear formal language, and the island-like arrangement of the platform in the front part of the altar area. The architects chose Pietra Dura for the striking, slightly elevated altar block. Amidst the wooden benches in the altar area, the celebrant's seat in the central axis is highlighted by a backrest. The tabernacle on the northern choir wall consists of two penetrating stone cuboids, whose opening forms a glass plate.
