Pfarrkirche St. Ulrich

St. Ulrich bei Steyr, Upper Austria

The single-nave, three-bay late Gothic nave, with its spacious impression, features a newer barrel vault with net ribs from the 19th century. The two-bay choir, with its net-ribbed vault, has a five-eighths closure. Externally, the nave shows stepped buttresses and tracery windows. The tower in the northern choir corner was converted into an octagonal upper story in 1868, topped by a pointed spire. The north and west portals are late Gothic. The high altar, dating from 1662, was redesigned at the end of the 18th century. The Rococo-style tabernacle was created in 1660/1670. The side altars are from 1764. The pulpit is from the end of the 17th century. The choir stalls are marked with the year 1618. There are Baroque oil paintings from the 17th century. Two oval paintings of Erasmus and Florian were painted in the style of Anton Hitzenthaler the Elder. The Windows The two painted nave windows on the south wall are of excellent quality. The left window depicts "Christ in His Father's Workshop" and the right shows "Saint Isidore as a Wanderer." Behind St. Isidore, the Laurenzikapelle (chapel) can be seen. High Altar The high altar painting was installed in 1852. It depicts St. Ulrich caring for the sick. The gilded statues of St. Sebastian, Rochus, Benedict, and Berthold were created in 1730 by the Steyr sculptor Johann Michael Schuster. Sacristy Door The handle and the lock plate date from the 16th or even 15th century. Side Altars The carvings of the left side altar date from the 18th century. The center of the right altar features an outstanding painting of the Crucifixion of Christ, created around 1770. Stations of the Cross Paintings The 14 Stations of the Cross paintings are of stylistically varying quality and date to the late 18th century. Organ The Neo-Gothic organ with its organ case from 1904 is a work by Josef Mauracher from St. Florian. There is a bell from 1329.
