Pfarrkirche St. Konrad

Name and Origin: The name St. Konrad is of ecclesiastical origin. The predecessor of today's parish church, the "Konradikapelle", likely received its name from the then Bishop of Passau. It was a much-visited pilgrimage church and was called "Kapelle zum Herrigott in der Wies". Next to the chapel, where the tower stands today, there was a healing spring with the statue of "Saint John in the Desert". In 1785, the Konradikapelle was chosen as a filial church of Viechtwang. The parish area (now the municipal area) was then formed from the Kirchham localities of Steg and Edt, as well as from the western part of the locality of Dorf, which belonged to the Viechtwang parish. The Church: The core of today's parish church St. Konrad dates from the late Gothic period. Noteworthy are the two-bay choir with 5/8-closure and three-parallel rib nets, as well as the late Gothic sacristy door. Until 100 years ago, the church had a roof turret placed on the roof truss. In 1910, the tower with an octagonal spire was erected, the nave was extended, and the sacristy was added. The extension was built as cyclopean masonry with flysch sandstone from the surrounding area. The high altar is late Baroque; the pulpit and side altar, as well as the stained-glass windows, were installed in the Neo-Gothic style 100 years ago. In 1999, the Tyrolean organ builder Pirchner built a mechanical parapet organ with 9 registers. The cemetery is said to have been laid out around 1856. It used to run around the church.
