Ampass, Tyrol
The church stands on a hill above Ampass with a beautiful view. In 1567, the Gothic church completely burned down after a lightning strike. Archduke Ferdinand II donated 50 Gulden in December 1568 for the copper to cast a new bell. On December 15, 1574, after a construction period of seven years, the re-consecration took place. In 1727, the high altar, which previously stood in the Wilten church, was purchased by the community. In 1955, during restoration work, a Christopher fresco from the early 16th century was found on the south side of the choir. Due to its extraordinary location and uniqueness, the parish church of St. Johannes is very popular as a wedding church.
