Pfarrkirche St. Donatus

Parish Church of St. Donatus in Patsch. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1256. On October 29, 1399, the entire village, including the church and rectory, burned down. Subsequently, the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style and consecrated on November 11, 1479, in honor of Saint Donatus and Saint Stephen. In 1767, a Baroque redesign followed. The church was enlarged and equipped with the flat vaulted dome and ceiling frescoes by Anton Zoller. These frescoes depict scenes from the life of Saint Donatus. They were painted over in 1886 but are visible again thanks to a complete restoration in 1938. In the altar shrine of the right side altar rest the bones of the martyr Donatus (this is a Roman soldier and not Saint Donatus of Arezzo). This relic comes from the St. Veit Abbey in Freising (Bavaria), which was dissolved in 1802. Three citizens of Patsch paid 100 Gulden and transferred it to Patsch in 1803. A special treasure of the church is the Easter Sepulchre by Johann Nepomuk Joachim Pfaundler (1723-1811).
