Rußbach-Dachstein West, Salzburg
The baroque church building, constructed in 1862 from local limestone, stands in north-south orientation in the middle of the mountain village, with the south tower facing the street. This tower is segmented horizontally by cornices and tapers to an octagonal bell chamber, above which, starting from triangular corbels, an octagonal tower pyramid with a pinnacle and cross rises. The lower part of the tower serves as a portal area, leading to the church via several steps. The interior of the church reveals a spacious hall, four window axes deep, vaulted by a semi-circular barrel vault. Dominating the church interior is the magnificent high baroque high altar from St. Peter. It is designed in the portal type. Above a paneled base with a knucklework and putti heads, the main body rises, in the middle of which the crucifixion scene appears. Based on an original painting in St. Peter from 1620/30, Josef Ghezzi copied it in 1960. The right side altar at the nave consists of the masonry altar block and a baroque Madonna figure in a radiance crown. Its counterpart, the left side altar, in honor of St. Joseph, features a neo-baroque figure by the well-known Liebering nativity woodcarver Rabitsch.
