Pfarrkirche Pürgg

Grimming-Donnersbachtal, Styria

The parish church was consecrated, according to tradition, on July 17, 1130. Three naves from the Romanesque building are still preserved. The side naves feature the characteristic semicircular apses. In the northern side nave, which is higher than the southern one, there is a gallery with a Marian altar. This gallery can be accessed at ground level through a separate entrance (towards the rectory). From here, one can also reach the bell chamber of the tower. The crypt hall of the Counts of Lamberg was built onto the west facade in 1904. A special feature is the west portal with its Romanesque door leaf, which bears spirals of wrought iron to ward off evil spirits.
