History and architecture of the Pfarrkirche Piesendorf The current parish church of St. Laurence has Gothic origins and was redesigned in neo-Romanesque style in 1854. It stands on the foundations of a Romanesque predecessor church. During renovations from 1989 to 1996, remains of this earlier church were uncovered. Piesendorf is considered one of the oldest parishes in the Archdiocese of Salzburg and is referred to as the original parish of the upper Pinzgau. It is also said that Salzburg's Prince-Archbishop Friedrich of Walchen was born here. Today, the parish community, together with Niedernsill, Kaprun, and Uttendorf, belongs to the parish association in the Deanery of Stuhlfelden.
