Pfarrkirche Ottensheim

Parish Church of St. Giles, built 1462 - 1467, completed 1520. The first St. Giles church as a predecessor on the same site dates from approx. 1200. Unfortunately, nothing of it has been preserved. The current large parish church is a late Gothic building with structural Baroque-style alterations. Sacristy annex with crypt as an ossuary. The church was restored after the great fire in 1899, and completely re-roofed in 1963 and 1964. The tiled roof on the spire was replaced by a copper roof, and on the nave by a double-layered Eternit roof. Finally, the interior and exterior were repainted, and the ornate interior paintings were made more dignified by simple white or yellowish coloring. In 1981, the exterior facade was restored. The tower is 72 m high and, according to an engraving by Merian from 1648, had a wedge roof like Walding, an onion dome until the fire in 1899, and since then the slender spire by architect Raimund Jeblinger, whose appearance has significantly improved with the copper roof.
