Pfarrkirche Oberperfuss

The parish church of St. Margarethe was built in 1733. A major renovation took place from 1962 to 1970, and in spring 2017, an elaborate renovation began again. The current baptistery was originally a mortuary chapel with an entrance from the outside. Now bricked up, it can be entered from the inside through an iron grate. It is the location of the Gothic Madonna created around 1500. The parish church is a Baroque hall building with a mighty tower on the north side. Inside, you can see frescoes by Max Gheri from Mühlau and Stations of the Cross by the Schwaz painter Anna Maria Moser. In 1970, during renovation work, vault paintings by Franz Altmutter were uncovered. On the left side wall of the church is a memorial plaque in Latin from the cartographer Peter Anich 1766, which praises his brilliant personality, noble character, and artistry. He was buried in front of the side altar on the Gospel side. On the right, a plaque commemorates the famous organ builder family Weber. Franz Weber created the church organ in 1867. The 19th-century Christmas crib receives special admiration during the Christmas season. The figures are by Johann Laimgruber, vulgo Mundi. On the south side of the parish church outside is a sundial: a work by Peter Anich.
