In the 17th century, the small church in Kleinarl was damaged several times by the Kreuzsalbach, especially partially destroyed in 1730. In 1775, this chapel was extended by 4.5 meters. Renovations were carried out in 1904 and 1952. Between 1984 and 1986, an extension was built according to plans by architect Dipl. Ing. Heinz Tesar. During this expansion, the existing front of the church, including the two Gothic rib vaults, was preserved and incorporated into the overall building composition. The church extension is housed in a cross-shaped rectangular room covered with a barrel vault. The barrel vault, designed as a curved coffered ceiling, is an important spatial element both visually and acoustically. In its external appearance, the entire church — Gothic old building, bell tower, barrel vault, and sacristy — is covered with copper sheet. The church was consecrated on June 1, 1986, by Archbishop Dr. Karl Berg.
