Pfarrkirche Heilige Ursula

Langkampfen, Tyrol

The Tyrolean village of Unterlangkampfen, located southwest of the fortress town of Kufstein on the left bank of the Inn, belongs to the municipality of Langkampfen. It is assumed that Langkampfen was an original parish founded by St. Boniface in 738/739. Today, the Catholic parish church is consecrated under the patron saint St. Ursula and belongs to the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The parish church of St. Ursula in Langkampfen is embedded in a hillside terrace and surrounded by a cemetery. The rectangular nave is structured by three window axes each on the north and south sides, consisting of a rectangular window, a transverse oval skylight above it, and painted pilasters. The center of the vault of the choir and the nave bays are adorned with large-format ceiling paintings. These are framed by small frescoes. According to tradition, the vault paintings are by the Innsbruck painter Joseph Schmutzer (1749-1808). In the spandrels, the four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John can be found. The high altar, the side altars, the pulpit, and the baptismal font are also unique.
