Pfarrkirche Grundlsee

Grundlsee, Styria

The parish church Grundlsee, located in the district Bräuhof of the municipality Grundlsee in Styria, was built between 1888 and 1890 according to plans by the architect Robert Mikovics in Neo-Gothic style. The solemn consecration took place on June 13, 1890. Originally conceived as a filial church of the parish Bad Aussee, it was elevated to an independent parish in 1952. The interior of the church is characterized by largely original furnishings from the time of its construction. Particularly noteworthy are the wood-carved statues, including depictions of Jesus, Margaret Mary Alacoque, Notburga, and Anthony of Padua. The 14 Stations of the Cross as well as other artworks come from the Gröden Valley. A special treasure is the figure of the “Madonna on the Globe,” a donation from Countess Czernin von und zu Chudenitz, which presumably dates from the 16th century. The three choir windows, made in the glass workshop Innsbruck, show scenes such as the Crucifixion, the Agony in the Garden, and a depiction of Saint Barbara with miners. Since the year 2000, the church has had an organ from the Rieger company from Schwarzach in Vorarlberg.
