Pfarrkirche Golling

Pfarrkirche Golling

Golling, Salzburg

The first mention of a place of worship in Golling dates back to 1384. It was a single-nave hall church until 1688. In 1689, the two side aisles were added by the Salzburg court architect Caspar Zuccalli. Around the same time, approximately 300 years ago, the citizens of Salzburg sought permission to raise the church tower by three fathoms. The tower extension took three weeks, and the installation of the new bells (by Johannes Nußbichler, Salzburg) took another four weeks. The tower crown consisted of a lantern with a onion dome. This was heavily damaged in 1888 after a lightning strike. Afterwards, the Golling parish church received its characteristic pointed tower. On February 17, 1693, the roof (shingle roof) of the nave, tower, and 'Neben Capelln' was destroyed by a fire, but the interior of the church was fortunately completely saved from the fire. Kuchl was formerly the ecclesiastical center, so the mass was read by the priests from Kuchl. Only after the request of vicar Franz Högl in August 1854 for a permanent assistant priest in Golling were the reasons for possibly elevating Golling to a parish considered. On March 31, 1856, Franz de Paula Högl was appointed as the first Golling parish priest, after Golling became an independent parish. The church was thoroughly renovated in 1960. On April 14, 2003, the church tower cross was also fully renovated. In 2004, new church benches, a heating system, and a fourth church bell were added.
