Pfarrkirche Deutsch Griffen

The church was founded in 1043 by Hemma von Gurk and is dedicated to James the Elder. The Romanesque-Gothic fortified church, once a pilgrimage church, is adorned with precious 15th-century frescoes and houses beautiful carved 18th-century altarpieces. The covered staircase, which once connected the rectory and the church and dates back to the counter-reformation activities of the Jesuits in the 18th century, is also the emblem of the municipality.Church visits with expert guided tours are possible by prior arrangement.Municipal Office and Tourist Information +43/4279/7600
