This beautiful square in the center of the market town of Markt Hartmannsdorf was opened in September 2004. It offers space for culture, recreation, and coziness, as well as ample parking. Two fountains are eye-catchers. On one hand, a fountain featuring the black king and white queen of the royal chess game, and on the other hand, the "Peter Simonischek Literature Fountain". The Burgschauspieler (Burgtheater actor) and long-time "Jedermann" performer Prof. Peter Simonischek spent his childhood in Markt Hartmannsdorf. His connection to his hometown prompted the market town to appoint him an honorary citizen during the redesign of the village square and to install the "Peter Simonischek Literature Fountain". Instead of water, literature bubbles from this literature fountain – as the name suggests. Peter Simonischek regularly fills this fountain with new works. Since 2010, however, the fountain has also actively contributed to the creation of new literature. Peter Simonischek and his wife Brigitte Karner launched the "Wortschatz" (Vocabulary/Treasure of Words) literature competition. Here, children, teenagers, and adults can throw their self-written works into the fountain, which are then awarded prizes by a high-caliber jury.
