Pesenbachtal

The entrance to the Pesenbach valley is located at the Curhaus Bad Mühllacken. The path through the valley only ascends a mere 80 meters in altitude. The wonderful, sometimes bizarre creations of nature that make this valley so special are extraordinary. The woolsack weathering of the granite has created sculptures of unimagined beauty here – the "Klausbachdachl", the "Goaßkirche", but above all the twelve-meter-high "Kerzenstein", a spectacular granite rock needle. The streambed also deserves attention. Trees even grow on some of the granite blocks lying in the water, letting their roots grow into the Pesenbach. Quieter spots like the "Grüner Tümpel" and the "Blauer Tümpel" alternate with rushing currents, for example in the "Teufelsbottich", an oval whirlpool. Or in the narrow section of the "Blaue Gasse", where the bottom of the stream shimmers blue-black. The cause of this is porphyrite rock, which was pushed to the surface 300 million years ago during a volcanic eruption. The Pesenbachtal lies in the shade of its forests of hornbeams, black alders and European white elms, interspersed with occasional red beeches.
