The Ranggen Easter Sepulchre was redesigned in 1850 by Josef Kramer, incorporating two older Holy Sepulchre backdrops. The five arches, stylistically different for this reason, occupy the entire width of the chancel and then taper perspectively towards the altar at the back. In the richly decorated column arches of the first backdrop, the city of Jerusalem with Mount Golgotha and the Garden of Gethsemane can be seen. Additionally, on the lintels and balustrades, Holy Sepulchre spheres are simulated by transparent colored paper and cut-outs in the canvas. In the plinth zone of the second arch, which, like the fifth, dates from the first half of the 18th century and presents itself as richly decorated Baroque trompe l'oeil architecture, the tomb niche with the Latin inscription “Ehrit sepulchrum eius gloriosum” (“His grave will be glorious,” Isaiah IX,10) is hidden. It is flanked by King David and Moses. The prophets Daniel, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, and Isaiah, each with inscription tablets, can be seen in the niches of the third and fourth arches, which direct the gaze to the fifth and last arch, an overpainted Baroque copper engraving that architecturally incorporates the tabernacle. The Easter Sepulchre of the Ranggen parish church is worth seeing!
