Oper Graz

The Graz Opera was built in 1899 according to plans by the famous architectural duo Helmer and Fellner. Here, tradition and modernity meet impressively: a striking contrast is provided by the steel sculpture "Lichtschwert" by Hartmut Skerbisch, which stands in front of the opera as a symbol of openness and tolerance. The opera itself, formerly a city theater, now serves as a magnificent stage for breathtaking productions in Graz, ranging from musical theater to ballet, and it is part of the European Route of Historic Theaters.
