The Cave of Johnsbach When the headlamps are switched on, the cave tour can begin. Good shoes and a thick jacket – voilà – then you are ready for the dark cave hole. Once through Johnsbach, you can book the guided tour at Kölblwirt and the fun can begin. Afterwards, you will certainly know more about aragonite crystals, sinter columns, and other cave formations. Besides the Kraushöhle, the Odelsteinhöhle is a fixed point for all Gesäuse visitors who are interested in geology, rocks, and speleology. It is located in the rear Johnsbachtal at 1085 m above sea level and is known for its aragonite crystals. These are greenish-blue and beautiful. A visit to the Odelsteinhöhle and its 470 m long cave system is definitely worthwhile. There you will encounter iron, copper, and fallen ore deposits. These extend from the neighboring Erzberg via Radmer to Johnsbach. Once a Speleologist Equipped with a warm jacket and good shoes, you go deeper and deeper into the black depths. While narrow passages alternate with smaller and larger halls, you are told exciting stories during the guided tour and discover one or another sinter column or the remains of the once overwhelming aragonite crystals. The cave was widely known early on and was declared a natural monument as early as 1931. The Odelsteinhöhle can only be visited with a guided tour.
