Inviting, leisurely, and breathtakingly beautiful: The 34-kilometer-long Nockalmstraße differs significantly from many other panoramic roads. Instead of rugged cliffs, it enchants with gently green Alm (mountain pasture) meadows, pink blooming Almrausch (alpine rose), and bright larch forests, with rustic Almhütten (alpine huts) and easy hikes. Constant companions are the Carinthian Nockberge of the biosphere park of the same name, which represent a unique geological rarity. Feel the energy of nature. In the home of the “Echte Speik-Pflanze” (true Speik plant), visitors can expect beautiful themed educational trails and circular hiking trails that invite them to arrive and pause. For example, the 1.5-kilometer-long “Weg der Elemente” (Path of Elements) with stone circles and instructions for energy exercises, or the nature encounter park “Silva Magica,” which encourages encounters with nature spirits. The Biosphärenparkzentrum Nockalmhof and the multi-vision show “Inseln im Strom der Zeit” (Islands in the Stream of Time) invite an intensive engagement with nature. Fine food for good grounding. Stopovers should be made frequently on the Nockalmstraße: because here, feasting is done according to all the rules of Carinthian culinary art.
