Naturschutzgebiet Kalksteinmauer

East of the town center, the protected area extends along the Kalksteinmauer for about 1 km to the east, south of the Mitterberg. From a natural perspective, the Kalksteinmauer marks the transition from the "Northern Limestone Foothills," specifically the "Losensteiner Berge" micro-unit, to the Flyschbergland. In many parts of the immediate vicinity, there is a mixture of Flysch sands and Rauhwacke, with the Rauhwacke rocks usually standing out from the surrounding, less strongly reliefed terrain in the form of striking, steeply rising rock formations.The protected area essentially consists of the following biotope types: Rauhwacke rocks Meso- to thermophilic beech and ravine forests Lean meadows and represents an exceptionally well-equipped and highly valuable landscape. For example, the frequent occurrence of yew there is an extreme rarity in Upper Austria.Likewise, the warm-loving ravine forests found in the Kalksteinmauer are among the rarest forest types in our federal state.
