Where Burgenland reaches for the sky, Austria's first cross-border nature park can be found. It encompasses the area around the eponymous Geschriebenstein, which, at 884 m, is the highest elevation in Burgenland. In this boundless natural and cultural space, visitors to the Austrian-Hungarian nature park will find a fantastic diversity. On the southern slopes, with their richly blooming dry grasslands, colorful scattered fruit orchards, gentle vineyards, and sweet fruit cultivations, a species-rich, traditional cultural landscape can be experienced, whose flavors are reflected in the numerous Buschenschenken (wine taverns). Particularly beautiful are the large, contiguous forest areas with oaks and hornbeams, which can be explored on more than 500 km of marked trails or via the barrier-free treetop walk. From the observation tower on the Geschriebenstein, through the middle of which the state border runs, one enjoys a magnificent panoramic view over all of West Pannonian Basin and the foothills of the Alps. The Nature Park office is always open from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 12:00.Information and brochures can be found at the municipality of Lockenhaus! The Geschriebenstein Nature Park is freely accessible! Breathe in fresh air and enjoy pleasant and relaxing hours in nature here!
