Naturjuwel Moorlehrpfad Teichalm

The raised bog on the Teichalm originated in the last ice age (Würm Ice Age) about 15,000 years ago. At that time, the high valley of the Teichalm was very poor in vegetation and characterized by erosion. Due to the deposition-related elevation of the Mixnitzbach, the backflow of the areas further away from the stream was cut off during flood phases. This led to an increase in the groundwater level. This was the initial situation for the current bog condition. Over the course of about 8,000 years, the flood bog developed into today's bog area. It consists of fens, alder carr forest, and the mountain pine raised bog.Flora & Fauna:Right at the beginning, next to the Latschenhütte, there is a mountain pine raised bog, which – not surprisingly – is dominated by mountain pines. In the shade of this pine species, cranberries and various sphagnum mosses thrive. However, the raised bog is the smallest part of the bog area. The fen is significantly larger and more colorful. In June and July, it presents a colorful picture with the Heath Spotted-orchid, an orchid, the Ragged-robin, and the Meadowsweet. The Narrow-leaved Cottongrass is particularly beautiful. Its white-shiny seed appendages resemble small cotton balls and serve for wind dispersal.Further along the path, we pass a spruce forest, through which the Mixnitzbach flows. On its banks stand numerous, brightly blooming tall perennials such as Hairy Cow-wheat, Cabbage Thistle, and Tuberous Comfrey. Song thrushes and Red-backed shrikes can often be observed hunting insects over the bog areas.Hiking is the guests' pleasure:The hiking trail leads right through the raised bog; it is laid on larch posts, floating, and leads about 1 km through the bog. There are signs with descriptions of the animal and plant species living there, as well as a viewing platform and benches for a short rest. The path is very easy to walk, even with a stroller, and is partly shaded by old trees. The path leads directly next to the Teichalmsee, which is well suited for a boat trip. Directly at the entrance to the Moorlehrpfad (bog nature trail) is the Latschenhütte or, opposite the lake, the Almgasthof Hotel Teichwirt for a stop. The Moorlehrpfad can also be included in other hikes on and from the Teichalm (e.g., Heulantsch-Runde, Teichalm-Runde with Moorlehrpfad, etc.)Take the opportunity and travel by public transport.
