Among the most impressive landscape elements are the steep rock locations of the Donauleitn. Sparse pine and oak stands inhabit these habitats. The reptile fauna here is particularly rich, but the eagle owl, the largest owl species, also feels at home here. With a little luck, an attentive observer can watch it on its evening hunts. Those who pay close attention may catch a glimpse of one of the ground dwellers. Several lizard species rustle through the bushes, among them the emerald lizard. With its total length of 35 cm, it is one of the largest native lizards. The name refers to the greenish coloration of the adult animals. Particularly striking is the blue-colored throat of the males during mating season. In the Donauleiten, it prefers rocky areas and scree slopes with lots of bushes and thorny shrubs, where it can hide from predators.Town center Engelhartszell behind the municipal office
