Museum im Benediktinerstift Lambach

Lambach, Upper Austria

ausstellungmuseumstour

The permanent exhibition covering almost a millennium of monastery history with the valuable Romanesque frescoes from the 11th century can be visited without a guided tour. This exhibition was conceived in 2006 on the occasion of the "950 Years of Benediktinerstift Lambach" anniversary under the title "Im Fluss – am Fluss" (In the Flow – by the River). It integrates visitors into the flow of time, leads through representative rooms, and showcases cultural-historical highlights from monastic life, architecture, fine arts, literature, and music. From Easter 2023, the monastery's "famous guests" will be staged in the museum and a dedicated room will be devoted to them. Furthermore, the well-known copper engravings by P. Koloman Fellner can be viewed.Revisiting the old frescoesFor 50 years, the thousand-year-old frescoes from the Romanesque church period of the abbey have been viewable as part of a guided tour. There has always been a desire from visitors to be able to view the frescoes for longer without the time pressure of a guided tour, according to Abbot Maximilian Neulinger. This led to the idea of allowing art enthusiasts access to the frescoes all day: Since summer 2022, visitors can independently purchase a ticket for €8.00 at the newly installed access terminal and visit the exhibition rooms. This offer was gladly accepted by our visitors, says Abbot Neulinger, and will therefore be continued this year.Of course, the guided tours through the abbey with its many sights will continue unchanged.Guided tours for groups are gladly conducted throughout the year by prior arrangement.Anyone who wants to learn why the world-famous frescoes were lost for centuries and only rediscovered by chance is cordially invited to take part in a guided tour! Of course, the guided tours through the abbey with its many sights will continue unchanged. Guided tours through the abbey for individuals without prior registration will take place again from Easter Sunday until the end of October, every Wednesday to Sunday at 2 PM.
