Lesachtal, Tyrol
The valley of a hundred mills ... this is what the Lesachtal is still called today. At its peak, around 200 mills clattered by the rushing stream. Farmers used the power of water not only to grind grain, but also to operate plows and lifts, threshing machines and sawmills. Increasing industrialization caused one mill after another to disappear. But in Maria Luggau there are still five old, well-preserved watermills where Lesachtal grain is ground for Lesachtal bread.
