The craft museum of blade smiths, grinders and cutlers is located directly on the Steyr river in the former workshops of the cutlers' guild. The craft museum tells of the times when the cutlers' guild flourished in Steinbach an der Steyr. Until 1967, the Steinbach cutlers created true works of art here in the Fanz Pils & Söhne knife factory under the toughest working conditions. Now, in the "Messerermuseum" (Cutlers' Museum), the craft of cutlers and blade smiths, their importance for people and their settlement development is presented on over 200 m2 of exhibition space. Ground floor: Knife production 1st floor: The life of the cutlers, their customs and club life 2nd floor: Historical development, cutlers' guild, trade connections of "Golden Steinbach", guild and church. The Steinbach cutlers' guild included the mentioned craftsmen within a radius of 2 miles (15.4 km) around Steinbach; they were first mentioned in documents in 1422. Under the toughest working conditions, the Steinbach cutlers created true works of art, which they sold in the most distant markets. The cutlers were so rich that the place used to be called "Golden Steinbach". Note: After visiting the Cutlers' Museum, walk up the Hochgasse to the idyllic village square and enjoy a magnificent view from the Sengsengebirge over the Totes Gebirge to the Alpine foothills and the central region of Upper Austria during a hike on the Panorama Trail (walking time 1 hour). Public transport: The Steyrtal is served by bus lines 452 (Rohr-Bad Hall-Steinbach a. d. Steyr) and 433 (Steyr-Molln-Kirchdorf).
