Steinerkirchen an der Traun is an old Benedictine parish. The name Steinerkirchen (Staina-, Stainein-, Steininachiricha), as well as the patronage of Saint Martin (altarpiece by an unknown painter from the 18th century), indicate its great age. The tombstone of a Roman couple from the 2nd or 3rd century in the vestibule of the south gate testifies to the presence of Roman settlers.
