Martinsbühel

Martinsbühel, which was called "St. Martinsberg" until the 19th century, is located on a rocky ridge at the foot of the Martinswand on the Inn. Prehistoric finds prove very early settlement. Around 180 AD, the Romans built the Castell Teriolis on the hill. Duke Friedrich with the Empty Pockets and Duke Sigmund used Martinsbühel as a hunting lodge. Life was particularly lively when Emperor Maximilian organized a show hunt in the Martinswand. In the 17th century, the facilities were increasingly neglected and later sold by the government. In 1888, the Benedictine Father Edmund Hager acquired the Martinsbühel property. Today it belongs to St. Peter's Abbey in Salzburg.
