Marienkirche Untergeng

The desire to build a church in Untergeng goes back a long way. After the construction of the elementary school (1938/39), the demand grew stronger again, and the plans for a church building took concrete shape.To realize the church construction, the Geng Church Building Association was founded in 1950. This association was the builder and is still the owner and maintainer of the church today.On the very day that permission for the church construction was granted by the Abbot of Wilhering and Bishop Dr. Zauner (May 10, 1950), construction work began.Already on May 24, 1953, the consecration of the church could be celebrated with Bishop Dr. Zauner. The bright and beautiful church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The population of Geng created a great community work with the construction of the church.In the years 1967/68, the youth center with a hall and stage, as well as a gymnastics room, was built next to the church.In 2000, the interior of the church received a new look. The altar area was redesigned by Prof. Stifter, a folk altar was erected, and the lighting was renewed.Abbot Gottfried Hemmelmayr consecrated the new folk altar on December 4.
