Rum, Tyrol
Marienkapelle RumThe baroque chapel has stood on the western edge of Rum since the 17th century. Above the entrance, a fresco medallion depicting the Rose Mother of God is emblazoned. A fresco with Madonna, John of Nepomuk, and Florian adorns the ceiling. Below it, the chapel itself with the neighboring houses is immortalized. During the Christmas season, you can admire a wax figure nativity scene here, dating from around 1800.The Rum Marienkapelle was built for protection against the Rum Mure: a recurring natural disaster in the 18th and 19th centuries that caused immense damage. Today, no one needs to fear it anymore, as protective structures ensure safety. A symbolic representation of the three Mure barriers can also be seen in the Rum coat of arms.
