Maria Lassnig Atelier Klagenfurt In the heart of Klostergasse 1, at Heiligengeistplatz, is the former studio of the renowned artist Maria Lassnig (1919–2014) – the place where her early career (1944–1951) took shape. The carefully restored rooms offer more than just atmospheric insight: they show how Lassnig worked, thought, and felt. Large projections display studio works such as her early body awareness art ('Body Awareness') in their original format. The technical reproduction makes details tangible that would otherwise fade into the shadows of history. This was once a meeting place for Klagenfurt's creative scene – young painters, poets, her models – and it shaped the artistic climate of the post-war period. Today, this site is revitalized through readings, discussions, workshops, and creative educational formats.
